FOREIGN-INVESTMENT
Country’s foreign investment was nearly Tk 1,15,944 cr in last 5yrs
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s foreign investment for the last
five years was nearly Taka 115,944 crore.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam on behalf of the Foreign
Minister A K Abdul Momen said this while responding to a starred question
placed by treasury bench lawmaker M Israfil Alam of Naogaon-6 in the Jatiya
Sangsad here today.
As per the information provided by the Bangladesh Investment Development
Authority (BIDA), Alam said in the last five years since 2013, country’s
accumulated foreign investment was US $ 28,555.53 million or Taka 115,944.5178
crore.
The highest foreign investment came from China with an investment of Taka
30,551.90 crore , followed by Singapore with an investment of Taka 18,185.80
crore followed by USA with Taka 9,810.84 crore while Taka 7651.14 crore
foreign investment came from India during this time.
Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Economic Zone
Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA),
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
Authority under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister’s Office
have strengthened cooperation with the Commerce Ministry in order to expedite
the economic diplomacy and enhancing trade and investment for implementing the
election manifesto “Bangladesh on March Towards Prosperity” and to promote the
annual growth upto 10 per cent by 2023, he told the JS.
In addition to this, the State Minister said “our foreign missions are playing
active role in the international arena particularly in the UN bodies and the
World Trade Organization (WTO).”
Even the foreign mission of Bangladesh organizes meeting with donor agencies
for attracting the foreign investment, he added.
The foreign investment countries are British Virgin Islands, Belarus, Canada,
China, Belgium, Australia, Norway, Nigeria, Nepal, Turkey, the Netherlands,
Thailand, Taiwan, UAE, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, Sweden, Vietnam, UK, USA, Sri
Lanka, Spain, Singapore, Slovakia, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Poland, Pakistan,
Mauritius, Malaysia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Kuwait, KSA, South Korea, Japan,
Iran, Italy, India, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark and Yemen.
