Multi-purpose projects taken in railways: Sujan

RANGPUR, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan today said the incumbent overnment has taken multi-purpose projects to make the railways accessible to the common people as safe, affordable and low-cost transportation.

“We are developing and modernising our railway that still lags behind the railways in the advanced countries,” the minister said at a function held at Thakurgaon Rail Station during his visit there as the chief guest.

Sujan said the present government does not wait for the people’s demand and acts before people ask for something. The railways, the safest vehicle of the common people, were damaged maximum during the War of Liberation.

He said the railway ministry is implementing two major projects of linking of Cox’s Bazar via Chittagong and establishing railway linking on the Padma Bridge to bring the southern region along with Jessore under the rail communications network.

“We are working to reach the railway system at the people’s doorsteps across the country and also planning for further enhancing connectivity with our neighboring country of India through this railway communications,” Sujan said.

The minister said the work of digitisation of railway ticketing system would start soon so that everyone could get railway ticket online and assured availability of online railway tickets for the people of Thakurgaon within the next one year.

General Manager of the Western Zone of Bangladesh railway Khondker Shahidul Islam, leaders of Thakurgaon district Awami League and its associate bodies, officials of the district level government departments and organisations were present.
