Upazila polls will be held in due time: Quader

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road
Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today reiterated that the
upcoming upazila parishad elections would be held in due time across the
country.

“Like the general election, upazila parishad elections will not be halted
any way for anyone. It will be held within due time, following the rules and
regulations,” he told reporters at AL President’s Dhanmondi political office
in the capital after the launching of the party’s nomination form
distribution among the aspirants who want to vie in the upazila parishad
polls.

About the BNP’s black badge wearing programme over the last national
elections, Quader said BNP experienced a devastating defeat in the last
general polls and that is why its leaders should wear black badges.

“The election defeat makes them perplexed. Now, they are showing attitudes
like the lost travelers,” he said.

Replying to a question, the AL general secretary said the party’s
nominations will be given to the people who are efficient and acceptable to
voters so that they can win the upazila parishad election.

Quader said they would give importance to the party’s survey report.

He said, however, said nominations would be given to aspirants who are
named in the lists, sent by the presidents and general secretaries of AL zila
and upazila units.

AL office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan and other leaders were present on the
occasion.
