Dhaka Art Summit to herald a new horizon in South Asian art: Muhith

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said the ‘Dhaka Art Summit (DAS)’ would herald a new horizon in the South Asian art through bridging forth the history and culture of Bangladesh as well as the region as a whole.

“There are many ancient and traditional historical facts about the country’s paintings. We will have to uphold the history and culture though paintings before all,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the fourth ‘Dhaka Art Summit’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city.

Muhith hoped that the exhibition will be successful and accelerate the country’s art and culture.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the function as special guests with Director General of the academy Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair.

Produced and primarily funded by the Samdani Art Foundation, the nine-day DAS 2018 is being organized under a public-private partnership with the cooperation of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Besides, Cultural Affairs Ministry, Information Ministry, National Tourism Board, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh National Museum are supporting the event.

A total of 300 artists from 35 countries are taking part in the summit, which will remain open for all from 10 am to 8pm every day.

A total of 16 panel discussions and two symposiums will take place with the participation of 120 speakers.
