Tipu for promotion of trade, investment ties with Malaysia

DHAKA, Feb 5, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today laid emphasis on the promotion of trade and investment ties with Malaysia to accelerate the development activities in Bangladesh.

“Bangladesh is moving towards a developed country. We should promote trade and investment ties with different countries, including Malaysia,” he said in a meeting with a delegation of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) led by its President Syed Moazzam Hossain at his in Secretariat in the city, said a press release.

Among others, Additional Secretary Shafiqul Islam, Joint Secretary Noor M Mahbubul Haq and BMCCI Vice President Raquib Mohammad Fakhrul were present in the meeting. Moazzam Hossain proposed undertaking an initiative to sign Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Malaysia by ensuring Bangladesh’s interest, which has been a long pending issue.

He also proposed undertaking initiative to promote relocating Malaysian sun-set Industries to Bangladesh, to make close the connectivity between Chittagong and Penang Port and to organize Summit in Malaysia on trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh on a regular basis.
