Young generations urged to become library-oriented

RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2019 (BSS) – Officials and experts at a post-rally
discussion today called upon the young generations to become library-oriented
for acquiring adequate knowledge to build an enlightened society.

They came up with the call at the discussion jointly organised by the
district administration and Divisional Public Library (DPL) at its hall room
in the city in observance of the National Library Day- 2019.

The day was observed here as elsewhere in the country for the second time
highlighting the importance of libraries, books and reading habit in the
daily life of the people from all walks in the society.

Earlier, a huge colourful rally with participation of government officials
and employees, educationists, private sector library activities, civil
society members, teachers, students and elite was brought out on the city
streets.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib led the rally and attended the discussion
as the chief guest with Assistant Director of the Divisional Public Library
Md Abed Ali in the chair.

Deputy Director (Local Government) for Rangpur Ruhul Amin Mian addressed
the discussion as special guest.

Founding President of Darshona Public Library SM Khalil Babu, Presidents
Rezaul Islam Reza of Agrodoot Library, Nasim Ahmed Sonu of ‘Gyanalok’
Library, Nazmul Islam Dollar of Noorjahan Library and General Secretary of
Rangpur divisional unit of Library Association for Bangladesh Syeed Mahbubar
Rahman spoke.

The speakers said libraries had always been playing vital role in enhancing
book reading habit of the citizens for enhancing their knowledge by removing
ignorance in the process of building a more enlightened society and
civilisation.

Ruhul Amin Mian termed libraries as ocean-like treasures of knowledge and
suggested everyone to become library-oriented for acquiring knowledge about
ancient and present societies, life, human philosophy, histories,
civilisations, country and world as a whole.

The chief guest said libraries are being considered as oceans of knowledge
for centuries together to help the people reading books there for acquiring
knowledge to enlighten the society.

He especially urged youths and students to become library-oriented for
enhancing book-reading habit to enrich their knowledge in building a more
enlightened and peaceful society free from superstitions and ignorance.
