Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

DHAKA, Feb 4, 2019 (BSS) – Stocks witnessed upward trend on Monday as major
indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend
with higher activities of some large-cap securities despite lower
transactions.

The rising major sectors were fuel and power, engineering and ceramics
sector. A total of 123 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher
activities.

The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 26.74 points up
at 5,828.07. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same
trend with 7.86 points up at 1,319.23 and with 14.36 points up at 2,018.20
respectively.

The volume of shares fell to 20.29 crore from Sunday’s 24.07 crore shares
and the daily turnover in value at DSE decreased to Taka 889.05 crore from
Sunday’s Taka 984.21 crore.

At the DSE, price of 150 securities out of the day’s 347 traded issues
closed higher against 155 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Power Grid, Desco, Monno Stafflers, Monno
Ceramics and USMANIALGL while the major losing issues were Asia Insurance,
Global Insurance, PURABIGEN, Prime Insurance and DHAKAINS.

UPGDCL topped the turnover leaders followed by BSCCL, KPCL, Singer BD and
MPETROLEUM.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward
trend with its major CASPI 74.49 points up at 17,856.40.

At the CSE, 272 issues were traded. Of those, 117 closed higher and 127
closed lower while 1.02 crore shares worth Taka 28.96 crore changed hands.
