DHAKA, Feb 3, 2019 (BSS)-Workers Party (WP) of Bangladesh has decided to contest the upcoming Upazila Parishad Election with party symbol ‘Hammer’.
The WP took this decision as per the proposal of the meeting of party’s politburo. All district units of the party have been asked to send names of probable party candidates for the upazila polls to the central office immediately, said a press release today.
Rashed Khan Menon presided over the two-day meeting while party general secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha presented a report on the current political situation, said a press release today.
The WP hoped that the Election Commission (EC) would take all necessary measures to hold the upazila elections in a free and fair manner.
Leaders of the WP will soon sit with the Chief Election Commissioner to discuss the overall situation of the upazila elections.
Politburo members Anisur Rahman Mallik, Sushanta Das, Mahmudul Hasan Manik, Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Amirul Islam and Kamrul Ahsan, among others, were present at the meeting.
The Election Commission has decided that the upcoming Upazila Parishad Election will be held in five phases across the country in March.
The final decision in this regard will be made by the election commission this afternoon.
