2-Day national poetry festival ends

DHAKA, Feb 02, 2019 (BSS) – With the theme ‘Bangaleer Joy, Kabitar Joy (Victory of Bangalee, victory of poetry)’, the two-day national poetry festival ended today on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.

The festival on the university’s Central Library premises named ‘Hakim Chhattar’ featured elaborate programmes including recitation of poems, songs on Ekushey February, seminars, discussions, recitation of rhymes, and exhibitions on poetry.

Poets from India, Turkey, the United Kingdom, China, Sri Lanka, Spain, Uruguay, Congo and Nepal participated in the festival. Apart from this, a number of local poets took part in the event.

This time, the festival was dedicated to martyred student leaders Amanullah Mohammad Asaduzzaman popularly known as ‘Shaheed Asad’, Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haq, Shaheed Dr Shamsuzzoha and Shaheed Motiur Rahman.

National poetry festival started in 1987 with a call for freedom against autocratic rule.

Earlier, Jatiyo Kabita Utsab presidium member eminent poet Asad Chowdhury inaugurated the 33rd festival organised by the Jatiyo Kabita Parishad.

The festival began with the placing of wreaths at the graves of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Patua Kamrul Hassan and at the central Shaheed Minar.

Jatiyo Kobita Parishad president Kabi Dr Mohammad Samad presided over the inaugural event.
