Programmes taken to observe ‘Amar Ekushey’ in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 31, 2019 (BSS) – The district administration today finalised
programmes to observe the “Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language
Day-2019” to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs here on February 21
next.

The day-long elaborate programmes were finalised at a meeting held at the
conference room of the Deputy Commissioner with Deputy Director (Local
Government) Md Ruhul Amin Mian in the chair.

Officials of the district and upazila administrations, district education
and primary education offices, heads of different educational institutions,
socio-cultural, political and professional activists and civil society
members attended the meeting.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Secretary of
Rangpur City Corporation Abu Saleh Md Musa Jongi, Additional Deputy Police
Commissioner (Headquarters) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abdullah Al Faruk,
Additional Police Super (Circle A) Saifur Rahman Saif, Awami League leaders
Shamim Talukder and Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, among others, addressed the
programme.

The observance will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 21
when Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa will first place wreaths at
Central Shaheed Minar to pay due respect to Language Movement Martyrs.

Later, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari, Deputy Inspector
General for Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud will place wreaths there.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib and Police Super Mizanur Rahman along
with other officials will also place wreaths there to be followed by other
government and non-government departments and organisations.

Leaders of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League and other
political parties, heads of different educational institutions, professional
organisations and common people will place wreaths there.

The other programmes chalked out include hoisting of national flag at half-
mast atop all buildings, educational institutions, ‘probhat ferries’,
decoration of city streets with miniature national and coloured-flags
inscribed with Bengali alphabets.

Besides, competitions for children on drawing, essay writing, descent hand
writing and patriotic songs and sports for underprivileged children will be
arranged along with screening of documentary films on the language movement.

The language movement veterans will be accorded receptions and cultural
functions be organised to mark significance of the day and special prayers
will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of
religious worships.

Cultural functions will be organised, the local daily, weekly, fortnightly,
monthly, online and others newspapers will publish special issues and Rangpur
Betar Kendra air special programmes narrating significance of the day.
Rangpur City Corporation, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College
and other educational institutions, sociocultural, political and professional
organisations will observe the day in a befitting manner.

The district administration will arrange the main discussion on the Central
Shaheed Minar premises to be followed by colourful cultural programmes at
night.
