Govt sincere to flourish children’s extramural talents

RANGPUR, Jan 31, 2019 (BSS) – The present government is working sincerely
to flourish extramural talents of children and disseminate true national
history to make them luminous citizens with patriotic zeal.

Officials and cultural personalities said this at the prize and certificate
distribution function of the two-day divisional level National Children Award
Competitions-2019′ held on Wednesday evening at Shishu Academy auditorium in
the city.

The district unit of Bangladesh Shishu Academy organised the competitions
with participation of 280 children of the primary and secondary level schools
from all eight districts in Rangpur division.

The children participated in fifteen subjects of the competitions including
singing patriotic songs, poem recitation, ‘Jarigan’, regional folk dance,
group dance, ready debate, drawing, preparing wall magazines, knowledge query
and others.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Abdullah Sajjad attended the
function and distributed prizes and certificates among the winner children in
different competitions as the chief guest.

Presided over by Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian,
former General Secretary of the district Shilpakala Academy Tauhidur Rahman
Tutul and District Sports Officer Ferdous Rahman addressed the function as
special guests.

District Children Affairs Officer Imran Mian delivered welcome speech in
the function moderated by Mithapukur Upazila Children Affairs Officer M Abdul
Wahed.

Noted cultural personality and Professor at the Department of Bengali of
Begum Rokeya University Dr Sarifa Salowa Dina adjudged performance of the
participants in different categories.

Professor Dina put importance on enhancing extracurricular activities, side
by side with normal academic studies, to flourish multi-dimensional latent
talents of school children to make them brilliant citizens.

“Authorities of primary and secondary level educational institutions should
work to popularise debate, drawing, essay writing, cultural, literary, sports
and other innovative extracurricular activities among children to build a
knowledge-based society,” she added.

The chief guest urged authorities concerned to property implement the steps
taken by the government through frequently arranging extracurricular
activities for young students to make them open-minded citizens with
patriotic zeal and human virtues.

Later, he distributed prizes and certificates among winners of different
events of the competitions and attended a colourful cultural evening arranged
on the occasion.
