Siemens chief hopes ‘backward-looking’ EU won’t block Alstom rail merger
FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Jan 30, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – The chief executive of German
industrial giant Siemens complained Wednesday that a planned merger of the
group’s rail division with France’s Alstom could be blocked by a “backward-
looking” European Commission.
“It will be interesting to see if the future of mobility will be
determined by backward-looking technocrats or by future-oriented Europeans,”
Joe Kaeser told a press conference Wednesday as he announced the group’s
first-quarter results.
