WFP to work for reducing malnutrition in BD

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2019 (BSS) – World Food Programme (WFP) today expressed keen
interest to work for formulating policy to reduce malnutrition from
Bangladesh.

A two-member delegation of World Food Programme (WFP) expressed the
interest during a visit with Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kamrun
Nahar at latter’s office, said a press release here today.

During the meeting, the delegation apprised the secretary of different
aspects of the research work called ‘Fill the Nutrient Gap Tool’ and sought
all-out support in implementing the policy in Bangladesh.

The delegation members are WFP Technical Advisor Dr Saskia de Pee and
Senior Programme and Policy Officer Masing, the release said.

Assuring the delegation of all kinds of cooperation to this end, Nahar said
the malnutrition related research work would help the ministry in many ways
to solve problems.

They also had detailed discussion of stunted people of the society who are
facing the nutrition problems due to ignorance and financial insolvency.

WFP’s Fill the Nutrient Gap tool analyses the nutrition situation in a
country and identifies the barriers faced by the most vulnerable to accessing
and consuming healthy and nutritious foods.

The project is carried out in collaboration with a range of national
stakeholders and its results are used to inform policies and programming in
social protection, food systems, health, agriculture, education and other
sectors that can contribute to improving nutrition, the release added.
