Schoolteacher to die for killing husband in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 29, 2019 (BSS) – A court here today handed down death
sentence to a woman for killing her husband a year back.

Senior District and Sessions Judge of Rangpur ABM Nizamul Haque handed
down the verdict in presence of the convict Snigdha Sarker alias Dipa, a
schoolteacher.

After pronouncement of the verdict, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Rangpur
Advocate Abdul Malek briefed journalists on the court premises.

He said Snigdha Sarker with her lover Kamrul Master strangled noted lawyer
Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick alias Babu Sona at his residence at Station
Babu Para in the city after making him unconscious with sedative pills at
night on March 29, 2018.

“Later, they buried the body in floor of the under construction house of
Kamrul’s brother in nearby Tazhat Mollapara area,” he said.

Later, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Dipa at midnight on April 3,
2018 suspecting her link to the murder.

“During interrogation, Dipa admitted her involvement with the murder and
informed the elite force about location of the body of her husband Advocate
Rothish,” the PP said.

Accordingly, RAB recovered the decomposed body and arrested Snigdha Sarker
alias Dipa, her lover Kamrul Islam Master, Advocate Rothish’s assistant Milan
Mohanta and Kamrul’s two students Sabuz Islam and Rokunuzzaman of Tazhat
Mollapara area in this connection.

Shushanto Bhowmick, younger brother of deceased Advocate Rothish Chandra
Bhowmick, filed a murder case in this connection with Kotwali police station.

After investigation, Kotwali Thana police submitted charge sheet on
October 21, 2018, against three accused persons Snigdha Sarker alias Dipa,
Kamrul Islam Master and Milan Mohanta excluding students Sabuz Islam and
Rokunuzzaman.

During the hearing, accused Milan Mohanta and Kamrul Islam Master fell
sick different times while living in Rangpur Central Jail and died at Rangpur
Medical College Hospital.

“After examining 37 witnesses of the case, the court announced the capital
punishment against the only living accused Snigdha Sarker alias Dipa today,”
the PP said.
