Vote counting of Gaibandhu-3 constituency progressing

GAIBANDHA, Jan 27, 2019 (BSS) – The vote counting of the national parliament elections to Gaibandha-3 (Sadullahpur-Palashbari) seat is progressing as the vote casting of the constituency was completed amid free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.

The Election Commission (EC) postponed the elections of the constituency as Dr TIM Fazley Rabbi Chowdhury, acting president of JAPA (Jafar), a fraction of Jatiya Party, and also an Oikyafront-backed candidate, died on December 20.

The EC declared re-schedule of the elections on December 23.

Starting at 8am, the vote casting was continued till 4pm. The day was declared as public holiday at the constituency on the occasion of the election.

A total of 4,11,854 voters are in the constituency. Of them, 2,00746 are male and 2,11,108 are female.

The vote was held in peaceful environment, said the returning officer, adding that all the concerned including the law-enforcers were deployed since morning so that the voters can cast their votes freely. A total of 2,500 members of police, 20 platoons Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and 1,584 members of Ansar-VDP have been deployed in the elections, said Police Super Engineer Abdul Mannan Mia.

In addition to this, the patrol team of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and RAB also has been deployed as the striking force at the important places in order to maintain peaceful environment in the elections.

Five candidates —Dr Younus Ali from Awami League, Jatiya Party candidate
Dilara Khandaker, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal candidate SM Khademul Islam Khudhi,
Mizanur Rahman Titu from National Peoples Party and independent candidate Abu
Zafar Mohammad Zahid are contesting in the election.
