Voting to suspended Gaibandha-3 constituency going on peacefully

GAIBANDHA, Jan 27, 2019 (BSS) – Voting to suspended parliamentary elections
in Gaibandha-3 (Sadullapur-Palashbari) constituency here is continuing
peacefully amid tight security and festivity.

The polling began at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm without any break.

A public holiday has been declared in the district to enable the voters to
exercise their rights to franchise, district election office sources said.

They said a total of 4,11, 854 voters, of them 2,00,746 male and 2,11,108
female, will cast their votes through 132 voting centres with 786 booths in
the constituency.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin visited some polling centers in the
morning, expressing satisfaction over polls atmosphere.

The voters were seen standing in lines for casting ballots, also expressing
their happiness for prevailing calm atmosphere in polling centres.

No untoward incidents from any polling centres were found till filling of
this report at noon.

The law enforcers including RAB and BGB personnel were seen patrolling the
roads and important places of the constituency to ensure free and fair polls.

Mobile courts led by executive magistrates are also conducting their duties
for ensuring peaceful elections.

A total of 5 candidates are contesting the election. The candidates are –
Dr. Younus Ali Sarker (Awami League), Dilara Khandaker (Jatiya Party-Ershad),
Khademul Islam Khudi (Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal), Mizanur Rahman Titu (National
People’s Party) and Abu Zafar M. Zahid (independent).

The election to Gaibandha-3 (Sadullapur-Palashbari) constituency had been
postponed due to sudden death of Jatiya Oikya Front candidate Dr. TIM Fazley
Rabbi Chowdhury on December 19 before the 11th parliamentary elections held
on December 30 last.
