AL leader former MP Nurul Alam Chy passes away

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 27, 2019 (BSS) – Elderly politician, former Member of
Parliament and President of Chattogram north district Awami League (AL) Nurul
Alam Chowdhury died of complicated diseases at Prakview Hospital this
morning.

Eminent freedom fighter, former ambassador and ex-president of Chattogram
University unit of Bangladesh Chatto League (BCL) Nurul Alam was 72.

He left behind his wife, two daughters, one son and a host of relatives,
friends and well-wishers, political fellows to mourn his death.

He had been suffering from kidney and other diseases for long time and
breathed his last at 5.20 am today.

The death of such an elderly political leaser of AL in Chattogram
district cast a pall of gloom in political, cultural and social arenas
elsewhere in the city and district.

Chowdhury was elected member of parliament in 1973 and 1986 from
Fatikchari constituency.

He was appointed Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman in 2010. Chowdhury, a
student of first batch of Chattogram University was also qualified in
Bangladesh Civil Service in 1973.

He suffered huge torture in jail by the then Mostaque government when he
strongly protested the assassination of father of the nation Bangabandhu
Sheik Mujibur Rahman and his family members in 15 August 1975.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Nurul Alam will be held at city’s Jamiatul
Falah maidan at 10 am tomorrow, second Janaza at Fatikchari college ground
after Zohor prayer.

He will be buried after 3rd Janaza at Motiur Rahman primary school
maidan in Fatikchari with full state honour.

Meanwhile, leaders of AL Chattogram city, Chittagong south and north
districts, their associate organizations and scores of different
organizations expressed condolence on the death of Nurul Alam Chowdhury.
