RAJSHAHI, Jan 26, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a post-rally discussion here
today unanimously underscored the need for boosting revenue earnings for
country’s overall development.

They said proper functioning of the country’s business sector and other
trade-related activities are the precondition to uplift the economic growth.

There is no alternative to expand trade and business to a greater extent
taking the country forward on the way to development, they added.

Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate organised the discussion at
Rajshahi Medical College Auditorium in the city to mark the International
Customs Day-2019. “SMART borders for seamless Trade, Travel and Transport”
was the main theme of the discussion.

Chaired by Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Muazzem
Hossain, the meeting was addressed, among others, by President of Customs
Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal Margub Hossain, Income Tax Commissioner Dr
Khandaker Ferdous Alam, BGB Additional Director Major Golam Sarwar and
President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Moniruzzaman.

Laying stress on enhancing revenue collection from both internal and
external sources, speakers said it could be the effective means of reducing
dependency on foreign aid for executing the uplift programmes.

Importance should be given on creating mass awareness about more revenue
collection for making the country economically self-reliant, they added.

In observance of the day, officials and staffs of the commissionerate
organised a huge rally that paraded the city’s main thoroughfares, carrying
placards, banners and festoons.
