Midas SME fair for women entrepreneurs begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Jan 25, 2019 (BSS)- A three-day long Midas SME Products Fair-
2019′ began here Thursday with the main thrust of promoting local SME
products of women entrepreneurs, enhance production of quality SME products,
exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and
commerce.

Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS) organized
the fair in association with Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh at Green
Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation.

In the fair, a spectrum of locally produced SME goods including leather
products, jute products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products,
electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other
products are being showcased in around 100 stalls.

Canadian High Commissioner Benoit Prefontaine and Councilor (Commercial)
Corinne Petrisor and MIDAS Chairman Anjan Chowdhury were present at the
inaugural ceremony.

High Commissioner Benoit Prefontaine said that Canadian support for
taking the Midas women entrepreneurs forward will continue in the years to
come.

Anjan Chowdhury urged the women entrepreneurs to prove capability through
competition for making their business profitable and sustainable. Competition
may be possible if there is training on products marketing coupled with
ensuring quality of products.

He emphasized on proper utilization of innovations along with assembling
diversity and new ideas to production and manufacturing process. Importance
should be given on product advertisement.

Chowdhury termed the SME as root foundation of country’s economy and
stressed the need for more investment to this sector taking the region
forward.

He said the country has already achieved uplift in every sector with the
participation of both men and women on its way to become a middle income
nation soon and SME is the key driver of the economy.
