Hanif urges BNP to get rid of Khaleda, Tarique
DHAKA, Jan 24, 2019 (BSS)- BNP should get rid of its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and her son and party’s fugitive acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who are convicts of corruption and other charges, to clean up the party, said Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif today.
“Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique were convicted of corruption and other charges. So, BNP should permanently remove the corrupt leaders from the party,” he told a discussion on “the 11th national polls and peoples’ expectation” at the National Press Club here.
Arranged by Swapno Foundation, the discussion was addressed by former Railways Minister Mujibul Haque, MP and Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin, among others. Foundation’s chairman Riaz Uddin Riaz presided over it.
Hanif said Tarique made nomination business at the directives of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and worked against the state.
“Tarique Rahman gave party nominations in the national polls as per the prescription of ISI,” he said. The AL leader said the people never want to see any Pakistani ghost (agent) in power.
“That is why the people boycotted BNP candidates in the polls,” he observed.
Mentioning that BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is spreading falsehood over the polls, the AL leader urged BNP leaders to find out the causes behind their massive defeat in the polls.
“If you (BNP) evaluate the causes behind your defeat, you will find that your anti-state activities and mindset made your party isolated from the people,” he said.
