Railway bridge to be built beside Bangabandhu bridge: Sujan

NILPHAMARI, Jan 22, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan today said a railway bridge will be set up alongside Bangabandhu Bridge on the Jamuna River.

“The government has taken a plan to build a double-gauge rail bridge, which will be constructed 300-foot up from the Bangabandhu Bridge, funded by Japan,” he told reporters while visiting Saidpur railway workshop in the district this afternoon.

After completion of the construction work of the rail bridge, Sujan said, it will be easy to increase the number of trains on Dhaka-northern region routes.

Noting that more manpower will be recruited soon to strengthen the capacity of Bangladesh Railway, the railways minister said once the manpower is recruited, the closed rail stations will be reopened.

“We have now adequate engines and coaches in store to introduce four more trains.”

Ahsan Adelur Rahman, MP, Railways Secretary Md Mofazzel Hossain, Additional Director General of Bangladesh Railway (Rolling Stock) Md Shamsuzzaman and General Manager of Railway West Zone Shahidul Islam accompanied the minister during his visit.

Later, the minister exchanged views with senior officials of Bangladesh Railway.
