Medical team formed for treatment of ‘tree man’

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2019 (BSS) – A nine-member board comprising doctors of
Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute was formed today
for the further treatment of ‘tree man’ Abul Bajandar.

The newly formed medical board will take the decision over the treatment of
Bajandar, said head of the medical board and director of the Institute
Professor Dr Abul Kalam told BSS.

Abul Bajandar, also known as “tree-man” for his extremely rare skin
disorder on hands and feet, was admitted to Dhaka Medical Hospital on Monday
as his condition deteriorated.

Abul Bajandar has so far been gone through 25 surgeries since 2016 as he
has been is suffering from epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), a rare skin
disorder commonly known as the “tree person” illness, which covers limbs with
warts, making them look like tree branches.

Physicians were close to declare their treatment a success, but Bajandar
flee the hospital in last May without notifying staff.

But on Sunday he was compelled to get admit to the hospital after his
condition deteriorated, with the growths now covering almost the entirety of
his hands and feet.

The warts began to appear on Bajandar’s limbs when he was 15. After he
married in 2011, the warts started growing so big that he could not even move
the hands and legs. So, he had to quit his profession as a rickshaw-van
driver.
