DHAKA, Jan 20, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today said that the
Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) under the Ministry
of Planning would be further strengthened during the tenure of the present
government to boost its monitoring coverage and capacity.

“We know that there are some problems regarding implementation. But, we’re
taking whatever steps which are needed to enhance the implementation rate (of
ADP),” he said.

The Minister was addressing a discussion meeting on ‘Continuation of
Bangladesh’s Development’ at the Jatiya Press Club in the city today.

The Planning Minister also said, “We’re trying to strengthen the IMED
through injecting fresh manpower and providing with new equipments. We hope
that the IMED will be further strengthened during this tenure of our
government so that it can further strengthen its monitoring,”

About the disparity in the society, Mannan said that the present Awami
League government is not a revolutionary one and it believes in wealth
creation. “We want to see better life of people and hunger is further
alleviated……….the lower line of people in the society has moved upward
and it’s a good sign,”

When his attention was drawn to the traffic congestion due to the ongoing
work of metro rail project, the Minister said the development works are
ongoing not only in the capital but also throughout the country. “If you take
it positively, then it’s like a ‘labour pain’,”

About the government’s stance for curbing corruption, he said that
corruption is a longstanding disease that the country had inherited from the
colonial period and the Awami League government, especially Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina, has announced ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption.

“Side by side, the ACC (Anti Corruption Commission) has been strengthened
further to deal with this menace,” he added.
