50 industries to be set up in Rajshahi: Liton
RAJSHAHI, Jan 16, 2019 (BSS)- Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC)
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton today said more than 50 garments and other industries
will be established in Rajshahi city in the next five years.
“We are committed to expanding industrial area to cut the existing
burden of unemployment here,” he said while addressing a project-launching
ceremony of a non-government organisation at Safawang Chinese Restaurant in
the city.
Volunteer Multipurpose Women Social Welfare Society (VMWSWS) organised
the function aiming to present the salient feature of its Alor Thikana
project along with its aims, objectives and implementation strategy.
Chaired by VMWSWS Executive Director Nure Jannat, the meeting was
addressed, among others, by RCC Ward Councilor Rabiul Islam Sarker, Editor of
Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, Assistant Director of Non-formal
Education Bureau Anwar Kamal, Thana Youth Development Officer Jahurul Islam
and local unit president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy.
The project is being implemented in five wards of the city to help ensure
sustainable development through rights protection and empowerment of women.
Mayor Liton expressed his commitment of generating employment
opportunities for one lakh unemployed people apart from building Rajshahi as
a prosperous, modern and developed city.
He pledged to expedite industrialisation process in the city and its
outskirt areas.
The RCC mayor said the implementation of Bangabandhu Hi-tech Park here is
progressing fast and employment scopes for more than 14,000 youths will be
created after its successful completion.
“I have a plan to set up five star hotels, BKSP, cricket venue,
agricultural university and heart foundation in the city,” he said.
