DHAKA, Jan 15, 2019 (BSS) – Newly appointed advisors of Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial at Dhanmondi-32 here.

The five advisors — HT Imam for Political Affairs, Dr Mashiur Rahman for Economic Affairs, Dr Gowher Rizvi for International Affairs, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs and Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique for Security Affairs — stood in solemn silence for some time to pay their respect to the architect of the country’s independence.

Before placing the wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu, HT Imam told journalists that in carrying out their responsibilities as advisors for the third consecutive term, they will mainly try to implement the commitments of AL’s election manifesto.

“We focused on the strength of the youth and prosperity of the country in our election manifesto and will work on this. Development programmes will be undertaken simultaneously both at towns and villages,” he said.

While talking about the challenges of the new government, HT Imam said establishing good governance in all sectors is their major challenge. He said, adding, corruption, militancy and drug menace must be uprooted from the society.

Replying to a question, HT Imam said, “Our Prime Minister invited all political parties for talks. BNP’s demand for a fresh election is unrealistic. I urge them to accept the reality and help the new government.”

While talking to journalists, Dr Mashiur Rahman stressed on bringing discipline in the banking sector and taking stern action against loan defaulters and unethical practices.

The Cabinet Division published a gazette dated January 13 which said that the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh appointed the five advisers under the rule 3B(i) of the Rules of Business, 1996 with portfolio on January 7.

According to the gazette, the advisors will get the rank, salary and allowances of a minister.
