Home minister inaugurates ‘fortnightly traffic discipline-2019’

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2019 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today inaugurated the ‘fortnightly traffic discipline-2019’ campaign in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) area to make people aware to obey the traffic rules to bring discipline in traffic management system.

Unveiling the campaign with releasing balloon at Zero Point near Gulishtan, he said, “We are inaugurating the ‘fortnightly traffic discipline-2019′ from Zero Point likewise inauguration of the previous years’ ‘special traffic week’ following deaths of two students in road accident.

The campaign will continue till January 31.

“Traffic division of the DMP has been working relentlessly to make free the capital city from traffic jam. The traffic snarl will be reduced significantly if all the people will follow the rules,” he continued.

Referring to various initiatives taken by the government, he said, “Nowadays, motorcyclists as well as riders are using helmets due to some initiatives taken by us, which is considered as a great success.”

The minister along with high officials of DMP including its Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia later distributed leaflets among the drivers and passengers and pasted stickers on vehicles aimed at making people aware about the traffic rule.

The DMP chief said, “Some improvements have been achieved in conducting traffic discipline campaign for three times in last year. But, the traffic jam is yet to reduce at satisfactory level as huge development works are being carried out in the capital city and we are trying our level best to bring it to tolerance level.”

“We have already identified 130 bus stands in the Dhaka metropolitan areas and check post will be set up at 57 points from where the traffic police will conduct their activities in bringing discipline in the traffic management system,” he continued.

The DMP commissioner requested all the city dwellers to help traffic police to this end.
