Khalid for overall development of shipping sector
DHAKA, Jan 15, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud
Chowdhury toady said the government is committed to overall development of
the shipping sector and determined to provide all sorts of cooperation for
the welfare of the sailors.
The state minister came up with the remarks at Department of Shipping
while distributing cheques of compensation among the family members of
deceased sailors.
“Department of Shipping is always sincere to solve problems of the sailors
and compensate for any accidents occurred during their service period,”
Khalid said, expressing his deep shock and sympathy to the sailors died in
ship sinking incident in China Sea last year.
Shipping Secretary M Abdus Samad and Director General of Shipping
Department Commodore Syed Ariful Islam addressed the programme, among others.
On January 6, 2018, MV Crystal, a ship owned by the National Iranian tanker
company, was engulfed in a fire in China’s North-East Sea and it submerged on
the spot.
Thirty Iranian sailors and two Bangladeshi sailors died in that accident.
The family of deceased sailor Mohammad Harun Or Rashid received Taka
1,19,59,133 and Sajeeb Ali Mridha’s family received Tk 87,39,205.
