Advocacy meeting on Vitamin A Plus campaign held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Jan 15, 2019 (BSS) – An advocacy and working plan meeting on
National Vitamin A Plus Campaign was held at the conference room of Civil
Surgeon (CS) office in the town here on Tuesday.

In cooperation with Institute for Public Health and Nutrition (IPHN) and
National Nutrition Service under the Directorate General of Health Services
CS office arranged the meeting for the officials and the field level
employees of the health department and the department of family planning to
make the campaign a grand success.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief
guest and Superintendent of District Sadar Hospital Dr Mahfuzar Rahman,
President of Bangladesh Medical Association (district unit) Dr Shahiduzzaman
Harun and Deputy Director of Department of Family Planning Dewan Morshed
Kamal were present as special guests.

With civil surgeon Dr MA Shakur in the chair, the function was also
addressed, among others, by Deputy Project Manager of IPHN Dr Mohammad
Sirazul Islam, District Education Officer Enayet Hossain, Medical Officer of
CS Office Dr Al Mahmudul Alam and General Secretary of Gaibandha Press Club
Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.

Earlier, Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer ABM Abu Hanif
made a video presentation on Vitamin A and its sources and health benefits
through multimedia projector.

In the presentation, it was also disclosed that a total of 3,36,847
children aged from six months to 59 months would be fed blue and red color
vitamin A capsule in all the seven upazilas of the district on January 19 to
reduce the risk of child mortality.

Some 4,682 health and family planning personnel including volunteers and
supervisors will be engaged in the 2,017 centers throughout the district to
make the campaign successful, the presentation added.

DC Abdul Matin urged the health and family planning staff including
volunteers to be serious and dedicated to observe their professional duty
from 8am to 4pm on January 19 properly.

Dr Shakur said special initiatives have been taken to bring all the
children of 19 char unions and other remote areas of the district under this
programme in cooperation with some NGOs including Friendship.

He also sought whole hearted cooperation of all and urged the concerned to
create much awareness among the people about the campaign to make it
fruitful.

All the upazila health and family planning offices, upazila family
planning officers, workers of health and family planning department, NGO
activists and journalists took part in the meeting.
