500 char dwellers get blankets from district police in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, JAN 13, 2019 (BSS) – A total of 500 cold victims of Kunderpara
char and its adjoining areas under Kamarjani union of Sadar upazila got
blankets from district police yesterday to mitigate their sufferings caused
by the existing cold wave.

A simple function organized by Sadar thana police was also held on the
premises of Kunderpara Gana Unnayan Academy of the union on Saturday noon
while MJL Bangladesh Ltd, Dhaka sponsored the programme.

Superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah addressed the
function as the chief guest and additional police super Mohammand Rahat
Gowhary, deputy general manager of MJL Bangladesh Ltd Ahsan Kabir and
assistant general manager M. Wahiduzzaman were present at the event as
special guests.

With officer in charge of Sadar thana Khan M. Shariar in the chair, the
function was also addressed, among others, by traffic inspector (Admin) Ataur
Rahman, inspector of Kanchibari police outpost Enayet Kabir, union parishad
chairman Abdus Salam Zakir, general secretary of union Awami League Mahiul
Islam, char inhabitant Anju Miah while entrepreneur of union digital center
Mahbubur Rahman was the moderator.

The speakers in their speeches said the district police led by SP Engineer
Abdul Mannan Miah were conducting welfare activities including warm clothes
distribution to the poor at the humanitarian ground side by side with
maintaining the law and order situation peacefully in all the seven upazilas
of the district.

SP Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah in his speech thanked the authorities of MJL
Bangladesh Ltd for standing beside the cold hit people of the chars here with
quality blankets aimed at lessening their sufferings caused by the present
sweeping cold wave.

The SP also urged all other humanitarian and volunteer organizations
including well off sections of the society to stand beside the cold stricken
people of the district.

Later, the guests formally disbursed the blankets to the selected cold
victims of the chars.

After getting the blankets, all the beneficiaries were in pleasant mood and
expressed their gratefulness to the district police and the MJL Bangladesh
Ltd for providing them with quality blankets free of cost.

A large number of char dwellers, students, teachers, SMC members, public
representatives and social workers including journalists of print and
electronic media took part in the programmes spontaneously.
