Removal of religion-based classes in communities stressed

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2019 (BSS) – Hindu community leaders and right activists at a discussion today raised their voices against creating religion-based classes in different communities for removing discrimination in society.

People of different religions should not be judged by caste system as all human-beings are equal, they told the discussion at the Central Shahid Minar in the city.

Avijan, a non-government organization, along with different organizations organized the discussion as part of their campaign for establishing rights of underprivileged people who are treated by caste system of religions.

Distinguished fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, President of Avijan Minto Kumar Mandal, members of civil society, leaders and activists of different dalit and harijan platforms, among others, addressed the discussion with Executive Director of Avijan Banani Biswas in the chair.

Dr Debapriya said, “Religion-based discrimination exists in the society….. It affects all segments of the society particularly economic sector because we cannot utilize talents of dalit, harijan and other classes of the people.”
