Discipline on roads, highways to get top priority: Quader

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2019 (BSS)- Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the topmost priority of his ministry would be to bring back discipline on the roads and highways for streamlining the public transport sector.

“This is most important to restore discipline on the roads and highways. Otherwise, the countrymen would not get benefits of the wide roads…The ministry has also asked the concerned officials to take necessary steps in this regard,” he said while exchanging views with reporters at his secretariat office here.

Quader, also the General Secretary of Awami League, said “No project will yield good results, if there’s no discipline. So, discipline must be restored.”

He said the government has taken initiatives to construct Dhaka-Sylhet four-lane and Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar four-lane along with the ongoing development works on the roads and highways. He hoped that works of the two four-lanes will begin in June next.

The minister said the works of the projects undertaken by his ministry is going on in full swing. The work on Joydebpur-Elenga four-lane will complete soon and the works of 2nd Kanchpur Bridge, 2nd Meghna Bridge and 2nd Gomati Bridge are going on in full swing, he added.

Quader said the implementation work of the country’s first elevated expressway from Dhaka to Bhanga is going on under the supervision of the army.

Besides, the minister said, the construction work of Metrorail Route-6 is going on in full swing while the process of beginning works of the route-1 and route-5 is underway. On the other hand, the construction work of Karnaphuli Tunnel is going on, he added.
