Cultural heritage of ethnic minorities should be protected

RAJSHAHI, Jan 10, 2019 (BSS)- Speakers at a discussion opined that
collective efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned is
very important for protecting the handicrafts and cultural heritage of the
ethnic minorities from further diminishing

They also observed that all quarters should take the responsibility to
protect the cultural heritage of the plain ethnic communities as their
heritage, resource are integral part of the society.

The observation came in the monthly meeting with members of Rajshahi
Divisional Ethnic Minority Cultural Academy (RDEMCA) at conference hall of
Divisional Commissioner’s office in the city today.

Chaired by Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman the meeting was
addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of Local Government and RDEMCA
Director Muhammad Salahuddin and its Members Ariful Haque, Jogendra Nath
Saren, Sabin Chandra Munda, Kamilla Biswash, Chitta Ranjan Sarker and Gabriel
Hasda.

The meeting was told that cultural practices and other ancestral
entertainment of the ethnic communities are gradually diminishing due to
various reasons. It stressed the need for protecting the cultural heritage
from further degradation.

The discussants underscored the need for ensuring social justice and
development of living and livelihood conditions of ethnic minority
communities in the country.

They urged to ensure the basic rights for the minority communities so that
they can get the scope of building themselves as social contributor and
actor.

Nur-Ur-Rahman says the present government is very positive and cautious to
uphold the dignity of the ethnic minority population. The country is now
being widely adjudged as a unique example of communal harmony as people of
all religions live with equal rights alongside peace and tranquility.

Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony as people of all the
religions have been celebrating their respective religious and cultural
festivals freely for long.

Very recently, four ethnic minority women were awarded and accorded
reception as recognition to their laudable contribution to social and
education development field.
