Proper implementation of laws for challenged people stressed

RANGPUR, Jan 09, 2019 (BSS) – Comprehensive efforts of all concerned have
become crucial for proper implementation of laws to ensure the rights of
people with disabilities.

Government officials and human rights activists expressed the views today
at a discussion on obstacles and roles for implementation of Persons with
Disabilities Rights Protection Act 2013 held at ASOD Training Centre in the
city.

The National Council of Disabled Women (NCDW) with assistance of Action on
Disability and Development (ADD) International Bangladesh organised the
discussion participated by representatives from different organisations
working on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Mohammad Faizul Alam
attended the discussion as the chief guest with Acting Deputy Director of the
Department of Social Services Abdul Matin in the chair.

Noted human rights activist Advocate Salma Khanom, Disability Affairs
Officers for Rangpur of ADD International Bangladesh Taposh Kumar Barma and
Masud Rana for Pirganj upazila, addressed the event as special guests.

Filed Coordinator of NCDW Md Hasanuzzaman delivered keynote presentation on
the act and the barriers being faced in its implementation process and
suggested the way-outs.

The chief guest said the government has enacted the act for ensuring all
the legal and human rights and protection of the persons with disabilities.

Advocate Salma Khanom said the people with disabilities as integral part of
the society are capable do like other people of the society if adequate
opportunities are provided to them as per the UN charters.
