Over 500 grassroots people vow to resist militancy

RAJSHAHI, Jan 9, 2019 (BSS)-Over 500 grassroots people at a folk-show here
on Tuesday expressed their commitment of resisting terrorism and militancy
collectively.

They also took oath of supplementing the government efforts for freeing the
country from the curse of terrorism and militancy.

Agriculture Sustainable and Socio-Economic Development Organization
(ASSEDO) organized the folk-show ‘Gamvira’ on Dogachhi Government Primary
School playground under Nachole upazila of the district.

The function was arranged in association with a project titled “Countering
Radicalisation of Religious Ideologies through Edutainment and Youth
Engagement’ which is being implemented in the area with financial support
from High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh.

The Gamvira performers disseminated and highlighted various messages of
deadly consequences of terrorism and militancy among the attending people
both males and females. Nachole Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Kader and its
Vice-chairman Mujibur Rahman addressed the session as guests of honour with
headmaster of the school Mahmuda Khatun in the chair.

ASSEDO Executive Director Rabiul Alam and Programme Manager Ajahar Ali
addressed the meeting as a focal person.

The speakers mentioned that Islam is a religion of peace. Islam never
supports terrorism and militancy.

They urged the participating people to disseminate their ideas and
knowledge acquired from the programme to their fellow-villagers so that the
crimes could be eradicated from the society as a whole.
