Food Minister vows to implement polls pledges

DHAKA, Jan 8, 2019 (BSS) – The food ministry will work for 100-percent implementation of the polls pledges made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, its new minister vowed today.

“We want to work together like a team and I want to run the ministry with utmost sincerity and transparency in line with the commitment of the election manifesto,” Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said while addressing a reception and view-exchange meeting at the ministry’s conference room here.

He urged the officials to work with full commitment so that all activities under the ministry become transparent to all.

Replying to a query on rise in rice price, the food minister said the ministry has a plan to organize a meeting with the leaders of the rice mill owners association on January 10.

About the countrywide programme for distribution of rice at Taka 10 per kg for the extreme poor, Food Secretary Shahabuddin Ahmed said the government is working to ensure food security and adequate food for the poor people under the programme.

Officials from all departments under the food ministry attended the function.
