Next hearing on Niko graft case Jan 3

DHAKA, Jan 3, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today set January 13 for holding the next hearing on the Niko graft case.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 set up at the old central jail in the city passed the order in the presence of Begum Khaleda Zia.

The court rejected the appeal of Khaleda Zia’s lawyers for their meeting with her. Besides, a hearing on forming fresh charge-sheet began as the court filed the appeal of the state counselors seeking permission to allow FBI officials as witnesses of the case.

At first, Anti-Corruption Counsel Mosharraf Hossain Kazal held hearing on forming the charge-sheet. Later, one of the accused of the case and also BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed presented argument on behalf of himself.

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against five including Khaleda Zia with Tejgaon police station on December 9, 2007 for abusing power to pen a deal with Canadian company Niko for exploring and extracting gas.

The ACC on May 5, 2008, submitted the charge-sheet against 11 people including Khaleda Zia after conducting an investigation.
