Liton seeks foreign investment in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Jan 3, 2019 (BSS) – Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM
Khairuzzaman Liton has sought foreign investment in Rajshahi for boosting its
socio-economic condition.

He added that Rajshahi has enormous prospects of foreign investment as
it’s enriched with massive natural resources including surplus agricultural
production. Foreign investment can be the vital means of bolstering economic
condition.

Liton made this observation while sharing views with a Canada-based
investment team and members of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries
(RCCI) at mayor’s city bhaban office here yesterday.

Taking part in the discussion team leader Monoj Bishwash discussed the
issue of generating 100 megawatts of solar power in the vast Padma riverbed.
He also put forward a proposal of boosting revenue earning of the city
corporation through capacity building.

RCCI President Md Muniruzzaman, Vice-president Masudur Rahman and Director
Farid Uddin and representative of Fing International Mijanur Rahman were
present at the meeting.

Mayor Liton called for more industries in the region for bolstering its
economy coupled with improving the living and livelihood condition of people.
Adequate industrialization could be the effective means of more employment
generation and the best uses of the surplus agricultural production.

He advocated for resolving the existing problems and obstacles so that an
industrial environment is ensured that can encourage more investors from both
home and abroad.

Liton focused on the agricultural potentials of the region with special
emphasis on value added agro-processing opportunities and agro-based
industries.

It could add to the industrialization efforts of agro-based and agro-
processing industry in the region for a sustainable and well-formed linkage
of production, processing and marketing.

RCCI President Muniruzzaman said the present government of Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards establishing more industries here
to lessen the pressure on Dhaka.
