Nasim urges Oikya Front’s MPs-elect to take oath

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Presidium Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson Mohammed Nasim today urged the nominees of BNP and Jatiya Oikya Front who have been elected MPs in the 11th parliamentary elections to take oath.

“I will request you to take oath as members of parliament (MPs). You should do positive politics in the parliament by taking oath,” he said while briefing journalists after holding a view exchange meeting of 14-party alliance at AL central office in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue area.

Speaking about Oikya Front’s announcement of not taking oath, Nasim said “They made many remarks, but they did not keep their words. They said they would not join polls under the AL government. Now they are saying that they will not take oath. I believe they will take oath”.

Presided over by Mohammed Nasim, the meeting was attended by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASOD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, Bangladesher Workers Party President and Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury (Maya), Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, AL Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, Dhaka City South unit AL General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, JASOD (Inu) General Secretary Shirin Akter and Ganatantri Party General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, among others.

Nasim, also health and family welfare minister, thanked the countrymen, including voters, over the landslide victory of the grand alliance in the December 30 polls.

“This victory is the victory of democracy. This victory is the victory of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s memorable leadership,” he said.

The Prime Minister has eliminated militancy, resolved the electricity problem and carried out unprecedented development activities in the country in the last 10 years, Nasim said, adding “We have given commitments and taken challenges. The people have kept their trust on the Prime Minister”.

Referring to Oikya Front memorandum giving programme to the Election Commission (EC) demanding fresh polls, he said the election has been recognized nationally and internationally.

“The people exercised their franchises publicly – all witnessed it. So, their demand is a ridiculous one,” he added.
