Oikya Front faces defeat in polls for leadership crisis: Nasim

DHAKA, Jan 1, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed
Nasim today said Jatiya Oikya Front was defeated in the 11th parliamentary
election due to its leadership crisis.

“They (Oikya Front) came to the elections in a disorganised way… Their
coalition did not have any leader who could lead in the polls. Thus they
faced election debacle due to leadership crisis” he told journalists at the
Health Ministry’s conference room after exchanging greetings with the
officials and employees of the ministry on the New Year today.

Mentioning that the Oikya Front had lack of coordination, he, also the
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member, said if any team does not have any
effective and powerful leader, it will not win any game. Awami League under
the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina successfully campaigned before
the election, he said, adding AL did not take the election lightly and that
was the only reason to become victorious in polls.

Praising grassroots leaders and activists, he also said they performed
their respective duties effectively from dawn to dusk.

Replying to a query of journalists regarding preparation for the movement
of the Oikkya Front, Nasim said their leaders made different remarks at
different times to this end.

“They were supposed to guard polling booths as guard. But none of their
workers were found in the field,” he said.

Referring to the allegations of BNP about vote rigging, the minister said
observers from different countries of the world had express their
satisfaction over the polls.

“Only the BNP is making such allegations… They have a tendency to
complain all the time,” he continued.

Terming the 11th parliamentary election as free, fair and participatory, he
said BNP should put emphasis on self assessment instead of making allegations
against Awami League.

Director General of Health Services Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad and Bangladesh
Homeopathy Board Chairman Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, among others, were present on
the occasion.
