Over 26.42 lakh students get 3.95-crore books in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 1, 2019 (BSS) – Over 26.42 lakh students of 18,184 primary and secondary level educational institutions got 3.95 crore pieces of new textbooks today while celebrating the National Textbook Distribution Festival-2019 on the New Year’s Day in Rangpur division.

Officials said the students received new textbooks at colourful ceremonies held in the primary and secondary level educational institutions in all eight districts of Rangpur division amid huge enthusiasm, fanfare and festivity,

In Rangpur city, the divisional offices of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and Directorate of Primary Education jointly organised the main book distribution function on Rangpur Government Girls’ High School ground.

Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari inaugurated the book distributing festival by distributing books among the students as the chief guest with Divisional Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Professor Dr AKM Sirajul Islam in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib and Divisional Deputy Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Md Akhteruzzaman attended the function as special guests.

Principal of Rangpur Dhap Satgara Model Kamil Madrasha ANM Hakimuzzman, District Education Officer Roksana Begum, Headmaster of Rangpur Zila School Abu Raihan Md Mizanur Rahman, Headmistress of Rangpur Government Girls’ High School Farida Yasmin, also spoke.

Deputy commissioners, district and upazila secondary education and primary education officers, upazila nirbahi officers and public representatives inaugurated the festival in other seven district and 58 upazila headquarters of the division.

Talking to BSS, officials concerned said over 3.95-crore pieces of new text books were distributed among the primary and secondary level students of 18,184 educational institutions in Rangpur division.

Of them, about 1.38-crore new textbooks were distributed among the students of primary level schools and madrashas and 2.57-crore books among the students of secondary level schools, madrashas and vocational institutions in the division.

Talking to BSS after getting new textbooks, class-six students Tasnim and Sumi and class-eight students Marjina and Mariyam of Rangpur Government Girls’ School and class-five student Morshed of Rangpur Zila School expressed happiness.

“I am extremely happy after getting new textbooks on the very first day of the New Year 2019 as the New Year’s gift,” said class-six student Mohaimenul Islam of Shishu Niketon School in the city.

Similarly, students of class eight Afroza, Kakoli, Solaiman of class six, Sushma of class four and Monalisa of class three of different schools in the city expressed happiness after getting new textbooks.
