At least 184 civilians killed in Afghan conflicts in December 2018: report

KABUL, Jan 1, 2019 (BSS/Xinhua) – At least 184 Afghan civilians were
killed and 94 injured in clashes and terrorist attacks in December 2018 in
the militancy-hit country, a monitor group reported on Tuesday.

“The CPAG statistics show civilian casualties have been reported in 40
incidents from 15 provinces of 34 Afghan provinces. Based on the statistics,
a total of 278 civilians including women and children suffered fatalities as
184 of them have been killed and 94 others injured,” independent Civilian
Protection Advocacy Group (CPAG) said in a statement.

The statement said the capital Kabul witnessed the most civilian casualties
in the past month, with 55 killed and 30 injured.

The worst attack in December occurred when terrorists targeted a building
of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and an office building of
neighboring Ministry of Public Works in Kabul, which left 47 people including
seven women dead and 27 others including 11 women injured.

All the victims of the deadly attack were civilian visitors and government
employees.

“Peace negotiations have recently been accelerated between the government
and opposing groups; while the talks are also followed by intense fighting in
a number of provinces of the country that caused huge losses to non-
combatants.”

In November 2018, 213 civilians lost their lives and more than 210 got
injured as a result of terrorist attacks and clashes across the country,
according to CPAG figures.
