Rajshahi students get new textbooks in festive mood

RAJSHAHI, Jan 1, 2019 (BSS) – Primary and secondary level students got new
textbooks in festive mood in the city and other adjacent districts today, the
first day of the new year 2019.

Book distribution ceremony has been arranged in every school to handover
books among the students.

In Rajshahi city, divisional, metropolitan and district level high
officials launched the book distribution activities formally at a function
held at Rajshahi Collegiate School.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Chairman of
Rajshahi Education Board Prof Abul Kalam Azad attended the Book Festival
ceremony as chief and special guests respectively with Dr Nurjahan Begum,
Headmaster of Rajshahi Collegiate School, in the chair.

Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Towhid Ara
and District Education Officer Nasir Uddin also spoke the function.

Chief Guest Liton said the present government has been distributing free
books to the school students aimed at ensuring education for all to free the
nation from the curse of illiteracy.

The meeting was told that more than 23.19 lakh students of 2,765 secondary-
level schools including 1,503 madrasha and 141 college-attached schools in
eight districts of Rajshahi division received 3.18 crore new books today.

Department of Primary Education (DPE) also organized a divisional, district
and metropolitan level book distribution function at Primary Teachers
Training Institute conference hall in the city.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner of
Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader addressed the ceremony as chief and special guests
respectively with Divisional Deputy Director of DPE Abul Kalam Azad in the
chair.

The meeting was told that more than 23.57 lakh students of primary schools
got around 1.11 crore books in the division.

The students were seen very happy after getting new books on the first day
of the year and we have kept five percent books as buffer stock for meeting
any deficit and for the newly admitted students.

Abul Kalam Azad told BSS that required number of books were sent to all the
government and registered non-government schools in the district for
distribution among the students.
