8 Shibir men arrested over spreading rumour

DHAKA, Dec 29, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested eight Islami Chhatra Shibir on charges of spreading rumuor against the state and Election Commission (EC) on fadcebook and various social networking sites from the capital’s Moghbazar and Mouchak area.

“We, in separate raid in Moghbazar and Mouchak areas on Friday night, arrested eight people, Mahmudur Rahman, 27, Abdullah Al Noman, 26, Abdul Kader, 28, Didarul Alam, 35, Arifur Rahman, 34, Motahar Hossain, 21, Morshadul Islam, 22 and Saiful Islam Mithu, 29, for spreading rumour against the state as well as the Election Commission, ” RAB media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan told a press briefing held at its Kawran Bazar media centre.

The arrestees were accused of making video contents, and parody songs against the state and posted those on facebook, you tube and other social networking sites, he said adding that they confessed their link to Shibir, a student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, he also said.

“During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said they have got Taka 47 lakh from a group to carry out propaganda against the state and the EC to make the election slated for December 30 questionable,” he informed.

The arrestees have a target of posting the videos and parody songs on at least 150 websites and different social networking sites to instigate people against the government, he continued.

Replying to a query, he also said, “A group of people has long been involved in making the election questionable by spreading rumour on the 11th
parliamentary election.”

Legal action was taken to this end.
