Fire kills 3 at high-rise building in India’s Mumbai

NEW DELHI, Dec. 28, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least three people were killed
Thursday after fire broke out inside a high-rise building in India’s
financial capital city of Mumbai, local media reports said.

The fire broke out at a 15-storey building of Sargam Society near Ganesh
Garden at Tilak Nagar in Mumbai.

“Fire broke out today in a high-rise building of Sargam housing society
here at Tilak Nagar in Chembur,” a police official said. “Police and fire
fighters are at the spot to contain the blaze and douse the fire. So far we
don’t have the figures about casualties in the incident.”

However, local media reports said three people were killed in the blaze.

“The victims have been identified as 72-year-old Sunita Joshi, 72-year-old
Bhalchandra Joshi and 83-year-old Suman Shrinivas Joshi,” a local media
report said. “The three elderly residents of the building were taken to the
hospital but they succumbed on the way. Another senior citizen was admitted
at a hospital for suffocation.”

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Chances of fire in Indian buildings are usually high as people ignore
safety standards.
