Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2018 (BSS) – Stocks witnessed upward trend today as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges rose with higher activities of some large-cap securities.

The rising major sectors were insurance, engineering, textile and financial institutions. A total of 164 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher activities.

The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 49.09 points up at 5,349.18. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 8.29 points up at 1,226.76 and with 12.93 points up at 1,867.69 respectively.

The volume of shares rose to 11.29 crore from Monday’s 9.44 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at DSE increased to Taka 388.24 crore from Taka 357.42 crore of the previous session.

At the DSE, price of 221 securities out of the day’s 341 traded issues closed higher against 76 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Phenix Insurance, BD Auto Cars, Bay Leasing, Shepherd and National Life Insurance. The major losing issues were ECABLES, ANLIMSAYARN, Tallu Spinning, GREEDELT and Paramount.

KPCL topped the turnover leaders followed by BEPHARMA, National Life Insurance, Saiham Textile and JMISMDL. .

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 137 points up at 16,359.26.

At the CSE, 265 issues were traded. Of those, 154 closed higher and 81 closed lower while 80.42 lakh shares worth Taka 61.93 crore changed hands.
