PM opens country’s first six-lane flyover on Dhaka-Ctg highway

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the country’s first ever six-lane flyover at Mohipal in Feni to ease further road communications between Dhaka and southeastern port city of Chittagong.

“The Mohipal section (of the highway) was a ‘sorrow’ for the travelers on this route. The flyover has been constructed considering their sufferings,” she said opening the structure through a video conference arranged at her official Ganobhaban residence.

Sheikh Hasina said the government took initiatives to keep all highways across the country dedicated for inter-district buses alone through introducing separate subways for local commuters.

“It will help reduce accidents on highways and make travels more comfortable,” she said.

The flyover having 660 meters length and 24.62 meters width, connected Dhaka-Chittagong and Feni-Laxmipur national highways.

A service road constructed as part of the project with its length being 1,370 meters and width being 7.5 meters alongside a footpath with 2,210 meters length. The flyover has 11 spans and 132 guarders.

Bangladesh Army’s 34 Engineering Construction Brigade constructed the flyover under a project of the Road and Highways Division while the project cost was Taka 181.48 crore.

The construction work of the project began on April 1, 2015. The length of the flyover is 660 meters while the width is 24.62 meters.

The structure appeared as a landmark of the Feni visibly enthralling its residents.

“We are so much happy that the flyover has established faster road connectivity among Feni, Dhaka and Chittagong,” Feni Zila Parishad Chairman Aziz Ahmed Chowdhury said.
