Improving quality of SME products suggested

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2018 (BSS) – Industries Secretary Muhammad Abdullah suggested for improving quality of the small and medium industries products with a view to reach the target of medium income country before 2021.

“Further standardization of the products is needed for building a medium income country by 2021, to reach Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030 and a developed Bangladesh by 2041,” he said.

He made this suggestion while inaugurating a day-long training workshop, organized by Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB), at the Industries conference room here.

He also suggested for strengthening accreditation activities for producing quality products by the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SME) sector.

As the small and medium industries are contributing 85 percent of the national economy, the Industries Secretary said “the government has taken massive initiative to improve quality of the local industrial products as the country can sustain in the global competition.”

Chaired by BAB Director General M Monwarul Islam, the workshop was also attended, among others, by Additional Secretaries of the Industries Ministry Shahidul Islam and Ekramul Haq and BAB Board member Engineer M Liakat Ali.

Abdullah told the function that international level standardization infrastructure has been developing through the BAB and national quality standard policy has already been formulated.
