Election Commission determined to hold a fair election: Rafiqul Islam

RANGPUR, Dec 19, 2018 (BSS) – Election Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam here
today said the Election Commission is firmly determined to hold a free and
fair election.

“The Election Commission is working to create a peaceful atmosphere for a free,
fair and credible election,” Islam said while talking to journalists after
presiding over a view-sharing meeting held in the city.

Rangpur Regional Office of the Election Commissioner organised the meeting
on law and order with the divisional, district and upazila level officials
and law enforcement agencies of Rangpur division at Zila Parishad Community
Centre in the city.

High officials of all eight districts, including Deputy Commissioners,
Superintendents of Police, Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Officers-in-Charge
from all over Rangpur Division attended the meeting.

The Election Commissioner said the Election Commission is considering the
whole country in the same way without giving special importance on any
particular region. “Every contesting candidate in the election will get equal
benefits.

The law enforcement agencies are with the Election Commission and working
properly. If the law and order situation deteriorates anywhere, steps will be
taken immediately,” he said.

He said, “If any negligence of anybody is found, it will not be tolerated
and stern actions be taken,” he said adding that the BGB has already started
patrolling and the Army will be in the field from December 24.

He said, “A fair environment is currently prevailing in the country and
the same will remain in force till the end of the eleventh parliamentary
election. All intelligence agencies of the country are working properly.”

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari, Deputy Inspector
General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan
Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Enamul
Habib, Rangpur Regional Election Officer of G M Shahatab Uddin, among others,
spoke.
