‘Rural developments make women empowerment visible’

RANGPUR, Dec 18, 2018 (BSS) – Officials at a women rally have said massive
developments attained in last ten years substantially improved life standard
of the rural people making women empowerment visible everywhere.

The expressed the opinion at rally cum documentary film show organised by
the District Information Office (DIO) at Dhonshala Government Primary School
ground in Pirganj upazila here on Monday afternoon, a press release said
today.

The DIO organised the rally under the “Strengthening publicity for
development of rural people” project to inform women about ten special
initiatives of the Prime Minister (PM), successes achieved by the government
and its future development plans.

Earlier, documentary films were screened focusing on the tremendous
successes achieved by the government in various sectors, preventing child
marriage, militancy and terrorism, improvement of life standard and
livelihoods of the rural people.

With Assistant Information Officer at District Information Office Sabiha
Akhter Lucky in the chair, Pirganj Upazila Women Affairs Officer Rebecca
Yasmin attended the discussion as the chief guest.

Trainers of the Pirganj Upazila Department of Women Affairs Sharmin Akhter
and Mousumi Akhter addressed the occasion as special guests.

Sabiha Akhter Lucky discussed the positive impacts on life and livelihoods
of the rural people following successful implementation of massive government
programmes, including the PM’s ten special initiatives.

She narrated the successes achieved in the agriculture, education, health
and family planning, power generation, poverty eradication, women
empowerment, digitisation, power, preservation of environment and many other
sectors.

Lucky specially stressed on the need for increasing social awareness side
by side with proper implementation of the laws concerned to free the society
from child marriage, dowry, drug, militancy and terrorism.

“Bangladesh will become a middle income country much ahead of 2021 if
enhanced participations of the women could be ensured in various development
activities alongside with men to further gear up the pace of uplifts,” Lucky
added.

The chief guest highlighted the massive developments those had already
taken place in every sector of the country improving the livelihoods and life
standard of the rural people in last ten years.

She called upon the rural women to avail various facilities, assistance
and benefits being provided by the government for their self-employment to
further improve living-standard for their empowerment.
