EC asked to dispose of writ against Jamaat candidates in 3 days

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today directed Election Commission (EC) to dispose of a writ filed against 25 candidates, who are contesting in the upcoming general polls, of Jamaat-e-Islami within three days.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after holding primary hearing on the matter.

Four persons including Tarikat Federation secretary general Syed Rezaul Haque Chandpuri filed the writ, pleading to cancel nomination papers of 25 candidates of Jamaat.

“The Election Commission has canceled the registration of Jamaat. Our main argument point is how the candidates of an unregistered party can take part in the eleventh national parliamentary polls,” Barrister Tania Amir, who is moving the writ before the court, told newsmen.

Earlier, Jamaat’s registration was canceled following a writ filed by people including Chandpuri.
